Statement of Principles

Citizens’ Caucus of Lebanon County

 Statement of Principles

We Believe That:

1.The United States of America is the greatest nation in the history of the world.

2.The rights and responsibilities of the citizens of this great nation are enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and in the U.S. Constitution. The language of the Constitution is explicit and shall be subject to strict interpretation by all branches of government.

3.The USA is organized with a limited federal government and stronger state and local governments.  Power springs from the people who have the protected right to petition their government and to criticize elected officials without reprisal

4.The government should not restrict individual freedoms including behavior that does not cause harm to others. As Thomas Jefferson wrote, “It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god.  It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”

5.The U.S. economy will operate on a system of free market capitalism including protection of individual property rights.  It is not the function of government to redistribute wealth.

6.As franchised voters in the political system, all citizens have an obligation to study and to understand the functions of government and the issues before the courts and the legislature.

7.The caucus will advise members and the public of the several sides of current political issues.  The caucus will encourage properly informed citizens to vote and to seek public office.
