Subject: Electrical Rate Hike Coming- Pennsylvania PUC Vice Chairman to Discuss Increase
All Pennsylvania electrical rate-payers including residential customers will be paying 30-40% more in their monthly bills by the end of 2010. You are invited to attend a meeting presenting Tyrone Christy, Vice Chairman of the Pennsylvania PUC, who will outline the background and issues which affect rates. You can help reduce the impact of the planned increases by studying the facts and supporting legislators pressing for proposed policy changes.
Under present law (1995 Deregulation Act), total cost increases to the consumers from the mandated rate hikes may be as much as $4 billion/year. Such an increase will adversely impact Pennsylvania by slowing economic growth and job creation. The speaker, PUC Vice Chairman, Tyrone Christy, will present information on the laws which dictate the increases and suggest changes in state policy which are necessary to reduce the size of the rate changes.
Christy was appointed to the PUC by Governor Rendell in 2007 and was elected Vice Chairman in 2008. A chemical engineer, Christy began his career as a staff engineer in the PUC in the mid 1980’s, specializing in the development and management of alternate generation power plants. He has been a strong advocate of planning for the addition of needed generating capacity in Pennsylvania including coal-fired units.
